Beyond the Forehead: 5 Surprising Areas for Wrinkle Reduction You Didn't Know About

When most people think about anti-wrinkle injections, they picture the forehead. Maybe crow's feet if they've done a bit of research. But honestly? That's just scratching the surface.

Over my 20+ years in aesthetics, I've seen how the most dramatic transformations often come from treating areas that clients don't even know can be treated. These subtle tweaks can lift, slim, soften, and refresh your entire face, without anyone being able to put their finger on exactly what you've had done.

That's the magic of expert wrinkle reduction treatments. It's not about freezing your face or chasing a specific "look." It's about understanding facial anatomy well enough to know which tiny muscle adjustments create the biggest impact.

So today, I'm pulling back the curtain on five surprising treatment areas that most people in Lancashire have never even heard of, but absolutely should.

1. Bunny Lines: The Nose Scrunch Nobody Talks About

You know those little diagonal lines that appear on either side of your nose when you laugh or scrunch your face? They're affectionately called "bunny lines," and while they can be quite endearing, they're also one of the most common concerns I hear in the treatment room.

Here's what happens: when you smile big, squint, or wrinkle your nose, a muscle called the nasalis contracts. Over time, repeated movement creates permanent creases along the bridge and sides of your nose. Some people develop them naturally. Others notice them appearing after treating the forehead, because when one area is relaxed, neighbouring muscles sometimes compensate by working harder.

The good news? Bunny lines respond beautifully to a targeted approach. Just a few units of anti-wrinkle treatment injected precisely into the nasalis muscle can soften these lines while keeping your expressions completely natural.

It's one of those "if you know, you know" treatments. Clients come back telling me their friends can't figure out why they look so refreshed. That's because bunny lines are subtle, but treating them makes a huge difference.

2. Downturned Mouth Corners: The Instant Mood Lift

This is probably one of my favourite areas to treat, because the results are so instant and uplifting, literally.

As we age, the muscles around our mouth change. The depressor anguli oris (DAO) pulls the corners of your mouth downward, creating a sad or tired expression even when you're feeling perfectly fine. It's incredibly frustrating for clients who feel great but are constantly being asked, "Are you okay?"

By strategically placing anti-wrinkle injections into the DAO muscle, we can relax that downward pull. The result? The corners of your mouth gently lift, giving you a softer, more approachable resting expression. You'll still frown when you're actually upset, this isn't about freezing anything. It's about rebalancing the muscles so your face reflects how you genuinely feel.

I often combine this treatment with a small amount of filler in the lips or marionette lines for an even more balanced result. But even on its own, treating downturned mouth corners is transformative. It's one of those tweaks that makes people say, "You look so happy lately!", and they'll never guess why.

3. Under-Eye Area: Smoothing Out Fine Lines (Without Filler)

Now, this one requires a very experienced hand, and I really can't stress that enough. The under-eye area is delicate, and it's close to some incredibly important structures. But when done correctly by a trained medical professional, it can make a visible difference to those fine crinkly lines that appear when you smile.

We're not talking about treating hollow tear troughs or dark circles here, that's a job for fillers or skin boosters. This is specifically about the small dynamic lines that form from the orbicularis oculi muscle, which circles your entire eye.

When injected with precision, wrinkle reduction treatments can gently soften these under-eye lines while maintaining the natural movement that makes your smile warm and genuine. The trick is using the right dosage and placing it in exactly the right spots. Too much, or in the wrong location, and you risk a heavy or unnatural appearance. That's why I always recommend seeking out a doctor-led clinic for this particular treatment, it's highly technical.

Clients are often amazed by how much younger and more awake they look after treating this area. It's subtle, but it photographs beautifully and just gives the whole eye area a smoother, more refreshed finish.

4. Facial Slimming: Redefining Your Jawline Without Surgery

If you've ever felt like your face looks "square" or your jawline has become more prominent over time, you're not imagining it. The masseter muscles, the powerful muscles you use for chewing, can become enlarged from things like teeth grinding, clenching, or even just genetics.

This is where facial slimming comes in, and it's become one of the most requested treatments at our Lancashire clinic over the past few years. By injecting anti-wrinkle treatment into the masseter muscles, we can gently relax them. Over the course of a few weeks, the muscle reduces in size, creating a softer, more oval-shaped face.

The benefits go beyond aesthetics, too. Many of my clients who grind their teeth or suffer from TMJ disorder (jaw tension and pain) find significant relief after this treatment. They wake up without headaches, their jaw feels less tight, and their face looks slimmer and more feminine or refined.

It typically takes about 4–6 weeks to see the full slimming effect, and results can last anywhere from 4–6 months. It's non-surgical, there's no downtime, and the transformation can be genuinely jaw-dropping (pun intended).

5. Jaw Tightening and Neck Smoothing: The "Tech Neck" Fix

Here's something I see all the time now: vertical neck bands and a slightly sagging jawline caused by, you guessed it, constantly looking down at our phones. It's affectionately called "tech neck," and it's ageing an entire generation faster than it should.

The culprit is the platysma muscle, a thin sheet of muscle that runs from your jawline down to your collarbone. When it's overactive, it creates vertical cords and bands in the neck. These become more noticeable with age, but I'm treating clients in their 30s for this now, too.

Anti-wrinkle injections can be strategically placed along these platysmal bands to relax the muscle and smooth the appearance of the neck. We can also treat the area just along the jawline itself to create a subtle lifting and tightening effect, sometimes called a "Nefertiti lift" (after the famously elegant Egyptian queen).

The result is a smoother, more defined jawline and a neck that looks years younger. It's especially popular with clients preparing for big events, because it photographs so beautifully and creates a long, graceful neckline.

Again, this is advanced work that requires a real understanding of anatomy. But when performed by an experienced clinician, it's one of the most satisfying treatments, for both me and my clients.

Why a Doctor-Led Approach Matters

I hope this has opened your eyes to just how versatile wrinkle reduction treatments can be. But here's the thing: not all practitioners are trained to treat these areas safely or effectively.

At Bella Medica Aesthetics, every treatment is performed by a qualified doctor with over two decades of experience. That's not just a marketing line, it's a safety standard. These lesser-known areas require precision, anatomical knowledge, and an artistic eye. One misplaced unit of product, and you could end up with asymmetry, drooping, or an unnatural appearance.

That's why I always say: if you're considering any of these more advanced treatments, please do your homework. Choose a clinic that prioritises your safety, listens to your goals, and has the clinical expertise to deliver natural, beautiful results.

Final Thoughts: Refresh, Don't Redesign

The beauty of these lesser-known treatment areas is that they enhance what's already there. You're not trying to look like someone else: you're just helping your face reflect how vibrant and youthful you feel on the inside.

If you've been thinking about refreshing your appearance but aren't sure where to start, I'd love to chat. We offer complimentary consultations here in Lancashire, where we can talk through your concerns, assess your facial anatomy, and create a personalised treatment plan that feels right for you.

Because ultimately, great aesthetics isn't about following trends. It's about subtle enhancements that make you feel confident, refreshed, and unmistakably yourself.
