Jawline Contouring in Lancashire: Define Your Profile Naturally with Dr Nabilah at Bella Medica

“Can dermal fillers make my jawline look more defined without making my face look overdone?”

I’m often asked this during consultations. Many people are not looking for a dramatic change. They simply want their lower face to look more balanced, their chin to have a little more structure, or their jawline to appear clearer in photographs and from the side.

Jawline and chin contouring with dermal fillers can be a subtle way to refine your profile. The important part is understanding what the treatment can realistically achieve, and having an experienced medical practitioner assess whether it is right for you.

What is jawline and chin contouring?

Jawline contouring uses carefully placed dermal filler to add structure and definition along the lower face. Chin filler can be used separately, or as part of the same treatment, to improve chin projection and profile balance.

At Bella Medica Aesthetics, I may consider filler placement around areas such as:

  • The centre and front of the chin

  • The chin crease or prejowl area

  • The edge of the jawline

  • The angle of the jaw

  • Areas where subtle asymmetry is present

The aim is not to create an identical result for every patient. Facial structure varies considerably, so the treatment plan needs to reflect your existing proportions, bone structure, skin quality and personal goals.

How can dermal fillers improve the profile?

A small or recessed chin can sometimes make the nose appear more prominent or the neck and lower face look less defined from the side. Adding carefully measured volume to the chin may help create better visual balance.

Jawline filler can also create a clearer transition between the jaw and neck. In some patients, it may soften the appearance of early jowling or improve the look of unevenness along the lower face.

However, it is important to be realistic. Dermal filler cannot change the underlying bones in the same way as surgery, and it is not a replacement for a surgical facelift or jaw surgery. It may provide refinement and support, but it will not remove significant excess skin or correct every concern.

There is no single “perfect” jawline. My goal is to help you look refreshed and balanced while still looking like yourself.

What happens during a consultation?

Your consultation is an important part of the treatment, not simply a quick discussion before injecting.

I will assess your face from different angles, including your front view, three-quarter view and side profile. I’ll look at the relationship between your chin, lips, nose, jaw and neck rather than focusing on one feature in isolation.

We will discuss:

  • What you would like to improve

  • Whether the concern is mainly related to the chin, jawline, soft tissue or skin laxity

  • Your previous aesthetic treatments

  • Your general health, medication and allergies

  • The type and amount of filler that may be appropriate

  • Expected results, limitations and longevity

  • Possible side effects and aftercare

  • Whether treatment should be carried out immediately or at a later appointment

Sometimes, the most appropriate advice is to use less filler than a patient initially expects. On other occasions, I may recommend treating the chin and jawline together to create a more harmonious result.

If filler is not the right option, I will explain that honestly. A consultation should help you make an informed decision, not pressure you into treatment.

Why choose a doctor-led clinic?

Bella Medica Aesthetics was established in 2008, and I have over 20 years’ experience as a qualified GP and aesthetic doctor. My medical background is central to how I approach aesthetic treatments.

The lower face contains important blood vessels, nerves and anatomical structures. Safe treatment requires more than knowing where to place filler. It also requires the ability to assess your medical history, understand facial anatomy, recognise complications and respond appropriately if concerns arise.

At Bella Medica, treatments take place in a safe, clinical environment. I use a measured approach, building definition gradually rather than aiming for an exaggerated result in one appointment.

Our clinic was awarded Best Medical Aesthetics & Skincare Clinic in Lancashire by Global Health and Pharma Magazine in 2025. While awards are reassuring, I believe the most important part of any treatment is the quality of the consultation, the safety standards and the relationship between patient and practitioner.

What is the treatment like?

Before treatment, the skin is cleansed and the areas may be marked to guide precise placement. A topical numbing cream or local anaesthetic may be used, depending on the treatment plan and the product selected.

Dermal filler is injected in small amounts, with the result assessed as the treatment progresses. The procedure time varies, but jawline and chin contouring is usually completed within a relatively short appointment.

You may notice some definition straight away. However, mild swelling can temporarily affect the appearance, so the final result is best judged once the area has settled.

Most people can return to normal daily activities fairly quickly, although I will provide individual advice about exercise, heat, alcohol, pressure on the area and skincare immediately after treatment.

How long do jawline fillers last?

The longevity of dermal filler varies between individuals. It depends on the product used, the amount injected, the area treated, your metabolism and how your body responds over time.

Many patients see results for around 12 months or longer in the chin and jawline, although some may notice changes sooner or maintain improvement for longer. It is not possible to guarantee an exact timeframe.

I do not recommend automatically adding more filler simply because a certain number of months has passed. At review, we can assess whether treatment is still needed and whether a small maintenance appointment would be beneficial.

If a hyaluronic acid filler is used, it may be possible to dissolve it with an appropriate enzyme treatment if clinically necessary. This does not remove all risk, but it is one of the considerations discussed when choosing a suitable product.

Is jawline contouring safe?

Dermal fillers are medical treatments, and no injectable treatment is completely risk-free. Common short-term effects include:

  • Swelling

  • Bruising

  • Tenderness or tightness

  • Redness around injection points

  • Temporary unevenness while the area settles

These effects usually improve over several days, although individual recovery times vary.

Less common complications include infection, persistent lumps, delayed inflammatory reactions or asymmetry. A rare but serious complication is vascular occlusion, where filler affects the blood supply to an area. This is why I believe treatment should be carried out by a suitably qualified and experienced medical practitioner with appropriate emergency protocols.

Before treatment, I will ask about relevant medical conditions, allergies, medication and previous procedures. Treatment may not be suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with an active infection near the treatment area, or in certain medical circumstances.

After your appointment, Bella Medica provides a post-procedure advice line with Dr Nabilah. If you are concerned about your recovery, you should contact us promptly rather than waiting for the next appointment.

Who may benefit from jawline and chin filler?

You may wish to consider this treatment if you are concerned about:

  • A less defined jawline

  • A small or recessed chin

  • Profile imbalance

  • Mild asymmetry

  • Early changes around the prejowl area

  • A desire for a non-surgical approach with limited downtime

The treatment may not be appropriate if you are looking for a permanent change, a major alteration to your bone structure or a solution for significant skin laxity.

The best way to find out is through an individual assessment. Online and in-person complimentary skincare consultations are available, giving you the opportunity to discuss your concerns before deciding whether treatment is suitable.
