Profhilo in Lancashire: The Autumn Skin Reset for Hydrated, Glowing Skin with Dr Nabilah at Bella Medica

Have you noticed that your skin looks a little drier, duller or more crepey as summer comes to an end?

I’m often asked why skin can suddenly feel tight or look tired in autumn, even when someone has kept up a good skincare routine. Often, it is a combination of factors: summer sun exposure, changes in temperature, cooler weather and indoor heating. These can all leave the skin looking less hydrated and less fresh.

This is where a seasonal skin reset can be helpful. At Bella Medica Aesthetics, one treatment I regularly discuss with patients at this time of year is Profhilo.

Profhilo is designed to improve skin hydration and quality from within. It is not a traditional dermal filler, and it is not intended to change the shape or volume of your face. Instead, it is a skin-remodelling treatment for people who want their skin to look healthier, smoother and more radiant while keeping their results natural.

What is Profhilo?

Profhilo is an injectable treatment based on hyaluronic acid, a substance naturally found in the body that has the ability to attract and hold water.

Unlike a volumising filler, Profhilo is not placed to build up the cheeks, lips or jawline. It spreads through the treated tissues and is used to support hydration, elasticity and overall skin quality.

I tend to describe it as a treatment for skin that looks tired rather than a treatment that changes your features.

Patients often come to me saying:

  • “My skin looks dull, even when I’m rested.”

  • “My makeup is catching on fine lines.”

  • “My neck looks crepey.”

  • “My face feels dehydrated and lacks bounce.”

  • “I want improvement, but I don’t want to look different.”

There is no single correct treatment for everyone, which is why I always begin with a consultation. However, Profhilo may be worth considering when the main concern is dehydration, early laxity, fine crepey texture or a general loss of radiance.

Why consider Profhilo in autumn?

Autumn can be a sensible time to review your skin and address the effects of the warmer months.

Many people have had increased sun exposure during summer, even if they have been careful with sunscreen. Sun exposure can contribute to dryness, uneven texture and the visible signs of skin ageing. Then, as the weather becomes colder and central heating comes on, the skin may begin to feel tighter and less comfortable.

Profhilo does not reverse every effect of sun exposure, and it is not a replacement for daily SPF or a consistent skincare routine. What it can do is support the skin’s hydration and quality, helping it look fresher and more supple.

For some patients, autumn is also a practical time to begin a course because the treatment can be planned around the festive season, winter events or the following spring.

Profhilo is a skin remodeller, not a filler

This distinction is important.

Dermal fillers are used for specific purposes such as restoring volume, defining contours or softening certain folds. Profhilo is different. It is intended to improve the condition of the skin rather than add noticeable volume.

The aim is not to create a dramatic transformation. Instead, we are looking for subtle improvements such as:

  • Better hydration

  • A smoother-looking texture

  • Improved luminosity

  • A fresher appearance

  • Support for mild skin laxity

  • Skin that feels more comfortable and elastic

Results vary from person to person. Some patients notice that their skin feels more hydrated first, while improvements in texture and firmness tend to develop gradually over the following weeks.

I always prefer to be realistic. Profhilo is not a surgical facelift, and it will not correct significant sagging or remove excess skin. It is best thought of as a treatment that supports skin quality and gives a naturally refreshed result.

How many sessions are needed?

At Bella Medica Aesthetics, the usual Profhilo course is two sessions, typically four weeks apart.

The first treatment begins the process, while the second helps to build on the result. The skin continues to change gradually after treatment, so I usually advise patients not to judge the final outcome immediately.

Profhilo is currently available at Bella Medica from £550 for two sessions.

Some patients may discuss maintenance treatments in the future, depending on their skin, age, lifestyle and personal goals. There is no universal schedule that applies to everyone. During your consultation, I will explain what may be appropriate for you rather than recommending treatment simply because it is available.

What happens during a Profhilo treatment?

Your appointment starts with a consultation and skin assessment. I will ask about your concerns, medical history, skincare routine and expectations. This is important because the safest and most natural-looking plan is one that is tailored to you.

The treatment involves a series of small injections into selected points. The product is then allowed to spread through the skin.

You may experience some temporary redness, tenderness, swelling or small raised areas at the injection points. These usually settle as the product disperses, but the exact recovery time can vary. Bruising is also possible.

I will give you clear aftercare guidance, and our post-procedure advice line is available if you have any questions or concerns after your appointment.

Is Profhilo suitable for everyone?

Profhilo may be suitable for adults who are concerned about dehydration, dullness, fine lines, early laxity or crepey skin. It can be used on areas such as the face and neck, depending on your needs and the treatment plan agreed during consultation.

However, no injectable treatment is suitable for everyone. Your general health, skin condition, medication, allergies, previous treatments and expectations all need to be considered.

Sometimes, another treatment or a carefully planned skincare programme may be more appropriate. I believe honest advice is essential, even when that means recommending less treatment.

At Bella Medica, your consultation can be completed online or in person, and our skincare consultations are complimentary.

Our treatments are carried out in a safe, clinical environment, with a focus on natural but very effective results. We want you to look refreshed and well, not as though you have had something obvious done.

Bella Medica was awarded Best Medical Aesthetics & Skincare Clinic in Lancashire by Global Health and Pharma Magazine in 2025. While awards are appreciated, the most important part of our work is the trust patients place in us and the care we provide throughout their treatment journey.

We welcome patients from across Lancashire and Greater Manchester, including those around Blackburn and Barrowford. You can read more about our Profhilo treatment, explore our wider skin treatments, or contact Bella Medica if you would like to ask a question before booking.

How can you prepare for your autumn skin reset?

A good treatment result is supported by good everyday skincare. I usually recommend focusing on the basics:

  • Use a broad-spectrum SPF every day, including during autumn.

  • Choose a gentle cleanser rather than over-exfoliating.

  • Use a moisturiser suited to your skin type.

  • Avoid introducing several strong products at once.

  • Keep your skin well hydrated and protect it from excessive heat.

  • Follow the aftercare advice provided after treatment.

Profhilo can be part of a wider skin health plan, but it is not a substitute for sun protection or medical skincare where that is needed.

Ready to discuss Profhilo in Lancashire?

If your skin feels dry, looks tired or has lost some of its natural bounce after summer, autumn may be the right time to arrange a consultation.

At Bella Medica, I will listen to what you would like to improve and explain whether Profhilo is suitable for you. If it is, we can discuss the usual two-session course, expected results, aftercare and the best timing for your appointments.

I look forward to meeting you and helping you achieve healthier-looking, hydrated skin with a result that still looks like you.
