LED Light Therapy in Lancashire: A Doctor-Led Glow Boost for Every Skin Type with Dr Nabilah at Bella Medica
“Will LED light therapy work for my skin?”
I’m often asked this at Bella Medica Aesthetics. The short answer is that LED light therapy can be a gentle, versatile treatment for many different skin concerns and skin types. However, the right light, treatment plan and timing still matter.
As an experienced GP and aesthetic doctor, I never believe in taking a one-size-fits-all approach. My role is to understand your skin, your goals and your medical history before recommending anything. Sometimes LED light therapy is the ideal place to start. Sometimes it works best as part of a wider skincare plan.
At Bella Medica, I provide LED light therapy at our clinics in Blackburn and Barrowford, Lancashire, in a safe and welcoming clinical environment.
What is LED light therapy?
LED stands for light-emitting diode. During treatment, the skin is exposed to controlled, low-level light from a specialist device. Unlike ultraviolet light, LED light therapy does not intentionally damage or peel the skin.
Different wavelengths of light are used for different purposes. Red and near-infrared light are commonly associated with supporting the skin’s natural repair processes, while blue light may be used in selected protocols for blemish-prone skin.
The light is designed to interact with the skin’s cells without needles, injections or significant heat. Most people find the treatment comfortable and relaxing. You simply lie back while the LED device is positioned over the treatment area, usually with suitable eye protection.

What can LED light therapy help with?
LED light therapy may be considered for a range of concerns, including:
Dull or tired-looking skin
Fine lines and early signs of ageing
Redness and inflammation
Acne and blemish-prone skin
The appearance of mild scarring
Sun-damaged skin
Supporting the skin after selected treatments
The Bella Medica LED light therapy service is listed as a one-hour treatment, with prices from £100. The exact approach depends on your needs and whether we are using LED therapy on its own or alongside another treatment.
I want to be honest about results. LED light therapy is not a surgical facelift, and it will not transform the skin overnight. Improvements are usually gradual. Many people notice that their skin looks fresher or more radiant, but a course of treatments may be recommended when the aim is to support longer-term changes in skin quality.
Is LED light therapy suitable for every skin type?
This is where personalised medical advice is important.
LED light therapy can be suitable for a wide range of skin tones and types, including dry, sensitive, mature, oily and combination skin. It is often appealing to people who want a skin treatment with little or no downtime.
However, “suitable for every skin type” does not mean that every colour of light or every protocol is right for everyone.
If you have a deeper skin tone or are prone to pigmentation, I will consider this carefully, particularly when discussing blue or broader visible-light treatments. Some forms of visible light may aggravate pigmentation in susceptible individuals. If you have melasma or a history of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, I may recommend a more cautious or red-dominant approach, alongside good daily sun protection.
I will also ask about your current skincare, medication and general health. People with photosensitive conditions, those taking photosensitising medication, or anyone with a relevant eye or skin condition may need additional advice before treatment. If you are pregnant, have a history of skin cancer in the treatment area, or are unsure whether LED light therapy is appropriate, please discuss this with me first.
What happens during treatment?
Your appointment begins with a consultation. I will look at your skin and ask what you would like to improve. This is important because “glowing skin” can mean different things to different people. You may be concerned about redness, uneven texture, active blemishes or a generally tired appearance.
After cleansing the skin, the LED device is positioned comfortably. You may notice a warm glow, but treatment should not feel painful. There is no need for needles or anaesthetic.
Afterwards, most people can return to their usual activities. You may experience temporary warmth or mild redness, although this is not expected in everyone. I will provide any aftercare advice you need, including guidance on gentle skincare and sun protection.
As with any treatment, please follow the instructions provided and contact the clinic if you experience persistent irritation, unusual discomfort or worsening pigmentation.

Can LED light therapy be combined with other skin treatments?
Yes, it can sometimes complement other treatments, but the order and timing should be planned properly.
For example, LED light therapy may form part of a wider skin rejuvenation plan involving:
Microneedling
Microneedling creates controlled micro-injuries in the skin to encourage a natural healing response. LED may be considered alongside it to support comfort and the skin’s recovery, depending on the individual treatment plan.
Bella Medica also offers microneedling with a skin booster for patients who may benefit from a combined approach.
Chemical peels
Chemical peels work by carefully exfoliating the outer layers of the skin. They may be recommended for concerns such as dullness, uneven tone, acne or sun damage.
LED light therapy may be used at a different stage of the plan, but I would not automatically combine every treatment in one appointment. Your skin needs time to respond and recover, particularly if it is sensitive or pigment-prone. You can read more about The Perfect Peel at Bella Medica.
Skin boosters
Skin boosters, including Profhilo, Jalupro and Sunekos, are injectable treatments designed to improve hydration and skin quality. LED light therapy does something different, so the treatments may complement each other when carefully planned.
The same applies to other options such as skin treatments at Bella Medica. The best plan is not necessarily the plan with the most treatments. It is the one that makes sense for your skin.

Why choose a doctor-led LED treatment in Lancashire?
LED light therapy is non-invasive, but that does not mean the assessment is unimportant.
At Bella Medica, I have been providing aesthetic and skincare treatments since 2008. As a qualified GP with more than 20 years of medical experience, I consider your health history, skin condition, expectations and lifestyle before making a recommendation.
That medical oversight is particularly valuable if you have sensitive skin, pigmentation concerns, acne, rosacea, a chronic skin condition or are already having other aesthetic treatments.
My aim is always to give honest advice and natural-looking results. If LED light therapy is appropriate, I will explain what it may realistically achieve and whether a course or combination treatment would be worthwhile. If I feel another option would be more suitable, I will tell you that too.
