Looking For Anti-Wrinkle Injections in Lancashire? Here Are 10 Things You Should Know

Thinking about getting anti-wrinkle injections for the first time? I get it: there's a lot of information floating around out there, and it can feel a bit overwhelming trying to separate fact from fiction.

As someone who's spent over 20 years working as a GP before moving into aesthetics, I'm often asked the same questions by patients across Lancashire who are curious but cautious. And honestly? That caution is a good thing. You should ask questions before putting anything into your face.

So let me walk you through the 10 things I think everyone should know before booking their first anti-wrinkle treatment.

1. They Work by Relaxing Muscles, Not "Freezing" Your Face

There's this common misconception that anti-wrinkle injections will leave you looking expressionless: like you've had all the life sucked out of your face. That's not how it works when done properly.

The treatment uses a purified protein called botulinum toxin, which temporarily blocks the nerve signals that tell certain muscles to contract. When those muscles relax, the skin above them smooths out. Simple as that.

Forehead and Eye Wrinkle Close-Up

The key word here is targeted. We're not numbing your entire face: we're carefully treating specific areas like forehead lines, frown lines, and crow's feet. When done well, you still look like you. Just a bit more refreshed.

2. The Appointment Is Quicker Than You'd Think

I know some people imagine aesthetic treatments taking hours, but anti-wrinkle injections are genuinely quick. Most appointments take around 15 to 30 minutes, depending on how many areas we're treating.

You could literally pop in during your lunch break and head back to work. No drama.

3. You Won't See Results Straight Away

Here's something that catches a few people off guard: you won't walk out of the clinic looking instantly different.

The effects typically start appearing within a few days, but the full results usually show around the two-week mark. So if you're getting treatment for a specific event: a wedding, holiday, big birthday: book your appointment at least two to three weeks beforehand.

Patience is part of the process.

4. Results Last Around 3-4 Months

Anti-wrinkle injections aren't permanent, which is actually a good thing if you ask me. It means you're not locked into anything.

Most patients find their results last somewhere between three and four months. After that, muscle movement gradually returns, and you can choose whether to have a top-up or not.

Interestingly, some patients notice that with regular treatments over time, they need fewer units to maintain their results. The muscles become a bit "trained" to stay relaxed.

5. It Really Shouldn't Hurt

I won't pretend the needles are invisible: but they're close.

Forehead After Aesthetic Treatment

Modern anti-wrinkle treatments use ultra-fine needles designed to minimise discomfort. Most patients describe the sensation as a tiny pinch or a mild sting that's over in seconds. Some don't feel much at all.

If you're particularly nervous about needles, just let us know. There are ways to make the experience more comfortable.

6. Who Does Your Injections Really Matters

This is something I feel quite strongly about.

Anti-wrinkle injections should only be administered by qualified medical professionals: not beauticians, not random people offering "deals" on social media. In the UK, there's currently no law stopping unqualified individuals from performing these treatments, which is genuinely concerning.

When you're choosing a practitioner, look for someone registered with the General Medical Council (GMC) or another appropriate medical body. Ask about their training. Ask about their experience.

With over 20 years as a GP, I've seen what can go wrong when aesthetic treatments are done carelessly. At Bella Medica Aesthetics, safety always comes first.

7. A Consultation Isn't Optional: It's Essential

Any reputable clinic will insist on a proper consultation before treatment. This isn't just a box-ticking exercise; it's how we make sure the treatment is right for you.

During your consultation, we'll talk through your medical history, discuss what you're hoping to achieve, examine your facial anatomy, and map out exactly where the injections should go.

This is also your chance to ask questions: about the treatment, about me, about anything that's on your mind. No question is too silly.

8. Natural Results Are Absolutely Possible

One thing I hear a lot is: "I don't want to look overdone."

Neither do I. And honestly, that's exactly what we're aiming for at Bella Medica Aesthetics. The goal isn't to erase every single line or make you look like a completely different person. It's to help you look refreshed, well-rested, and like the best version of yourself.

Good aesthetic work should be subtle. People might notice you look great: but they shouldn't be able to pinpoint exactly what you've had done.

9. There's Virtually No Downtime

Unlike surgical procedures, anti-wrinkle injections require almost no recovery time.

You might have some mild redness or small bumps at the injection sites, but these usually settle within an hour or so. Bruising is possible but not guaranteed: and if it does happen, it's typically minor and easy to cover with makeup.

Most patients go straight back to their normal activities. We just recommend avoiding intense exercise, alcohol, and lying flat for a few hours after treatment.

10. Anti-Wrinkle Injections Can Be Combined With Other Treatments

If you're looking for more comprehensive facial rejuvenation, anti-wrinkle injections work beautifully alongside other treatments.

For example, many of my patients combine them with dermal fillers to address both dynamic wrinkles (the ones caused by movement) and static lines or volume loss. Others add skin boosters or polynucleotide treatments for improved skin quality overall.

During your consultation, we can chat about what combination might work best for your goals. There's no one-size-fits-all approach here: it's all about creating a bespoke plan that suits you.
